we live on a blue planet. More than two-thirds of the globe is covered in water. Yet the underwater world remains the earth’s last truly unexplored frontier. The ocean’s long been the centre of economic activity. People have been living near the sea, feeding themselves by fishing and making their livelihood on the coast for thousands of years. The challenge today is harnessing the potential of this blue economy, that of the oceans and off the coasts to boost economic activity and improve living standards in a rapidly changing world. The first priority has to be food. The earth population is expected to rise from 7 to 9 billion over the coming 40 years. Fishery will be crucial as we try to feed an extra 2 billion people.
