Listening

How can I be fluent in english listening?

Listening is a special skill in itself Firstly you need to be aware of how native speakers differ from second language speakers and learners.
Word and sentence stress, linking, rhythm, word focus, reductions and contractions, pitch and a number of other factors need to be .understood by the listener.
This will help the listener to grasp the subtleties of speech. Next of course is the nightmare of different accents and this area can only be improved by listening to local dialects and researching special phonic rules for these dialects. A knowledge of slang will also improve listening recognition.as native speakers often adopt slang to simplify meaning. The listener needs to be prepared for gramar rules to be broken aas native speakers are not teachers.
Next it isimportant to consider what listening is hoping to achieve beyong just understanding. Is accuracy the most important factor; for example announcements at an airport ? Is efficiency the main goal suxh that the listener gets’the gist’ . This requires distinguishing important and unimportant information.Another factor maybe following the structure of the talk - keeping track - very important when watching a drama on TV for example.Other issies that affect the listeners ability to understand are familiarity to the subject and vocabulary used. Concentration is also vital for fluent listening and this especially difficult with second language listening.
