No need for "the."

If that's the case, it's because there is no specific set of people being referred to.

People in general => no article. I like people. I like to listen to people.

Specific people => article. I like the people I work with. I like to listen to the voices of the people on the BBC.

Based on the above sentence, 'voices' should reply 'voice' shoudn't it?

What I like to do is listen to people's voice.

What I like to do is listen to people's voices.

Hi Yoong Liat,

Each person has his or her own voice, right? So their voices, plural... unless I'm not understanding what you are asking?

(By the way, is the "friendly" way to refer to you "Liat" or "Yoong"?)

Hi Barbara

In the earlier post, I wrote, 'Some members address you as GG or Grammar Greek.'

It should have been 'Grammar Geek'. Sorry for the error.

At that moment, somehow, I was thinking of the Greeks and the Trojans.

Hi Yoong Liat,

I never noticed that the original poster had the singular "voice." I would have corrected that if I'd noticed. Good catch.

(As long as you don't call me "Barbie" you can call me whatever you want

Excuse me. Isn't that true that when we use the "what I'd like to do is to..." construction, we must use infinitive to complete the sentence?

What I like to do is [to] listen to people's voice.

What I like to do is [to] listen to people's voices.

I posted a wrong question. Sorry. My proper question is, in the sentence "What i like to do is listen to people's voice", why is there not a "to" before the verb "listen"?

I have seen a silmilar sentence: "My job is sell computers."

I thought there should be a "to" before "listen" and "sell" as they both are infinitives.

Is it possible to say
