Listen and hear

Hello ..

Thanks for welcoming me in the forum ..

I have a question.. what is the difference between "listen" and "hear" .. why can we use "hear" as a non-action verb while we can't consider "listen" to be the same?

All I know is that in the word "listen", we put more attention than we do with "hear" .. It's like it includes some mental action !

Am I right?

To listen implies attention; to hear does not.

I heard them talking but I did not listen to what they said.

To listen to also means to accept advice: He listens to his parents.
