List

Hello,

1. His name is not on the list.

2. His name should be in the list.

The aboves line are from a text book of the same chapter.

I am a bit confused about the usage of "in" and "on" with the word "list".

Could anybody here explain it for me?

Both prepositions are used here. I believe on is more common.
