According to my Longman, 'lino' is pronounced like 'lie-no' .... whereas the first syllable in the original word (linoleum) is pronounced with a schwa.
How can such change in pronunciation be explained? If we take for example the pair limousine/limo, the first syllable will sound the same way in the both words?
Could you possibly give me more examples (of either kind)? Hope my question makes sense....
