Linking Modifier question.

Hello. I hope I am posting this in the right place.

I am having a disagreement with someone with regards to the use of the phrase "six foot under".'

The phrase was used to describe someone who had died.

When it was suggested that he should have used "six feet under" he gave the following argument:

"Well if you would like to get technical with a Linking Modifiers on an Adjective with foot and feet I was correct. You on the other hand might need to go back to school. Just saying look it up....
Meaning he is six foot under or can be he is buried six feet down."

If anyone can 1) understand what he is attempting to say, and 2) explain to me how he is either correct or incorrect, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Kim

Hello, Kim - and welcome to English Forums. I cannot say who is right, since I cannot see the whole text or know the intent, but he is talking about using "six foot under" vs "six feet under" in various positions/functions. The rest of his comment is flaming at you.

He is six feet under = He is buried. This makes the phrase a simple (adverbial?) complement.

According to my understanding...

1) What he means by Linking Modifiers on an Adjective is...When describing something having a length of n feet, you say a nine foot tall giant where nine + foot + tall is used as an adjective to describe the noun (giant). You can also paraphrase it as 'A giant who is nine feet
