In western culture, the number 13 is often linked with evil.

Should I change the underlined part into 'linked to?" Thanks.

I agree with you.

But I'm not so sure of the meaning of "link with," which you said shows grouping.

John is linked with rich and gentle class.

Is the above right?

More usual would be something like "John has links with the Mafia", suggesting that there is some rather vague connection.

Similarly, I think I'd tend to say "the number 13 is linked with evil" (rather vague), but "supersition about the number 13 is sometimes linked to the number of witches in a coven" (a specific connection).
