Line up & field

In soccer, is it possible to use the verb "to line up" with the same meaning as "to field"?

For instance, do the following sentences make sense?

1) Liverpool have lined up a strong side for the match against Everton.

2) Liverpool have fielded a strong side for the match against Everton.

Thank you.

To me, the meanings are a little different.

#1 means Liverpool have arranged for a strong side. This sounds like it would be done sometime before the match.

#2 means they actually sent a strong side onto the soccer field.

If they did this sometime before the match, I would expect the sentence to say eg Liverpool are planning to field a strong side . . .
