limits when reading some numbers!!!

Hi hello!
I'd like to ask you something about reading some numbers:
What is the rule when reading numbers like the next examples?
-1800.- eighteen hundred instead of one thousand eight hundred

-2500.- twenty five hundred. instead of two thousand five hundred.

What is the range limit when reading the numbers in that way?
This way of reading is common when talking about money issues?

I really thank you in advance!!

A.

There is no rule; both are acceptable. In American English at least, it is common to speak 4-digit numbers with the last two digits zeros as 'hundred's: 1100 -- eleven hundred 9900 -- ninety-nine hundred.

I realize this way of reading numbers is just a custom or because it is easier to pronounce long numbers.
