Likely

I've got the feeling that I worded this phrase incorrectly.
Is "likely" the right word here?

"The building was on fire for a long time, so the help wasn't very likely".

Can you please whether it makes sense?

Thank you

I thought that the building was on fire for a quite a long time, so even if a fire brigade arrived at the place, it would be not likely to put out this fire.

Should I provide my information to my sentence? Or is it about "the" before "help"?

Thank you

Then say eg . . . so help was not very likely to succeed.

If you just say help was not likely, it means help is unlikely to occur.
