Grammar

Like [what] a bastard my ex was.

A: What made you so into wine?
B: I originally got into wine through my ex-husband. The more I drank, the more I liked what it made me think about.
A: Like what?
B: Like what a bastard my ex was.

I'd like to know in the underlined sentence what role "what" plays.
Thank you in advance for your help.
