like + ing

Is it correct to say 'I like cooking once or twice a week' or is it better to say 'I like to cook once or twice a week.' ???

Top answer

g. I like getting up early. or I like to get up early.

  • g.
  • I like getting up early.
  • or I like to get up early.
  • The difference between I like to do and I like doing : I like to do something = I think it is a good thing to do.
  • I like doing something = I do it and I enjoy it.

I'm not a native speaker, but the rule is as followes:

when you talk about repeated actions, you can use -ing or to...after like:
e.g. I like getting up early. or I like to get up early.

The difference between I like to do and I like doing:

I like to do something = I think it is a good thing to do.

I like doing something = I

Both are correct, but I agree with Malinka that the second one is better.
The gerund (-ing form) is better without the adverbials of time: I like cooking. (This is just my personal taste.)
