like doing sth vs like to do sth

What is the difference in meaning between like doing sth and like to do sth in this examples?
1. I like playing tennis.
2. I like to go to the dentist twice a year.
3. I like people to be honest.
4. I like to be on time.

Sometimes there's no difference in meaning.

As for your sentences, I'd say:

n°1 (like + -ing): you really enjoy something (in this case, playing tennis)
n° 2, 3, 4 (like + inf): a habit, OR something which (although not enjoyable) you consider convenient, helpful, appropriate

As a sidenote, if sentence no.1 were "I like to play tennis" I would understand you

Hello everybody, in my opinion, "like" is commonly used with the gerund and "like" with to infinitive is used to express a tendency , a kind of feeling or inclinatioin.in this way like to do can be replaced by want to do.in addition we normally say like doing something or would like to do something.
