LIKE as preposition

I'd like to ask if LIKE is used as a preposition in the following case, should what follows LIKE be changed to noun clauses?

1) He can do many things, like repair the car, build a house, etc.

OR

2) He can do many things, like repairing the car, building a house, etc.

Which one is corret? And why?

THANKS!

Yes, like can be used as prepostion. I think your second sentence is correct with little correction. He can do many things, like repairing a car, building a house ect.

Hi Marshmellow_coffee

I actually prefer the first sentence.

In your sentence, the word 'like' is used to refer to examples of what he can do. The examples that you give should be infinitives because they are examples of 'do'. In my opinion, your second sentence would be more balanced with examples that use infinitives.

Look at your sentence this way:

I thought the same, Yankee. But some people told me that when LIKE is used like SUCH AS, it should always be followed by a noun clause. But after listening to both of you, I guess both ways are correct?
