Like and as

Hi

I have a question on this sentence.

Like St. George fought the dragon, I subdued my rival in chess.

This sentence was in an error correction exercise.

Should we change like to as, or the sentence is all right as it is?

I see Cambridge dictionary mentioning like and as are both preposition or conjunction.

As your teacher, I need to tell you to be careful about this concept. Preposition.

This book is like the one we read last month. Preposition.

I played as my uncle does always. conjunction.

I think all of these are correct beyond doubt.

Like St. George fought the dragon, I subdued my rival in chess. Conjunction, but I do not if this grammatical.
