Like again

Can one say:

1-What we found there was a abandoned city, like a ghost in void.

instead of:

2-What we found there was a abandoned city, which was like a ghost in void.

I don't think "1" really works, but maybe if the part after the comma is longer then it will.

Can one say:

3-What we found there was a abandoned city, like a ghost in void crying out silently to be brought back to life.

instead of:

4-What we found there was a abandoned city, which was like a ghost in void crying out silently to brought back to life.
