Light out

Hi,

What is the meaning of 'light out' in the following context?
'... . Soon the whole street was closed, even though it was still light out....'

I looked 'light out' up, and the meaning was 'depart quickly'. In the above sentence it is not a verb.

it was still light out = there was still daylight outside (i.e. it was not dark yet)
