Light bulb going on

Hi

A certain psychic says about her abilities when she was still at school: Another useful discovery from my school days was that I knew whenever our teachers were planning any sort of surprise test. It was never like a light bulb going on. It simply occured to me on the walk to school. I would just be walking along, thinking of nothing in particular, and it would float into my head - test today!

--- I'm not sure I understand that "light bulb going on". What was she trying to say?

Hi

But it sounds like a contradiction to what follows. She says it was NEVER like it and then continues that it occured to her on her walk to school.

So you will have to think about how the description of her experience in the following part of the sentence is unlike 'a sudden, lucid idea'.

OK, I think I understand it. Thanks.
