'Ligeia' by Edgar Allan Poe!

Christopher Lee on 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination', pronounced Poe's 'Ligeia' as 'Le Guya' - rhymes with 'the buyer'! :-o 'sgotta be WRONG!
In 'Tomb of Ligeia' (1964) starring Vincent Price, Vince pronounces it 'Lie-GEE-er' - much nicer!
Can anyone confirm which is correct, please?

  • [/nq] It's likely that Poe had in mind the traditional anglicised pronunciation of Latin: lie-JEE-uh.
  • Lee evidently used the "revived classical" pronunciation, not customary in Poe's time.
