You see this announcement in an international magazine.
People sometimes say that they will never forget where they were when they heard that a certain famous event happened.
Write an article telling us:
• Where you were when you heard news of a significant event.
• What you were doing at that moment.
• Why this specific event had such a strong impact on you.

Near the catastrophe

Like every day I woke up late, and I decided to have lunch at restaurant down the street because that afternoon I was leaving my apartment in Madrid, and I didn’t want to clean up again the kitchen. I was so excited, after one year studying far away from home I was going to see everybody in Santiago.
I decided to take a stroll to the train station and, when I was almost getting there, I realized I had forgotten my wallet. I had to go all the way back and once again in my life I was rushing so I wouldn’t miss the train. I sprinted to my apartment but I knew it was worthless; I had missed the train so I stayed at my apartment.
I had anything to do that day so I rented some movies and I stayed all day lying in bed with my laptop. As soon as I was falling asleep, my cell phone started ringing. It was my mom; she was desperately crying and asking me if I was ok. I turned on the TV and I started watching the news. It was terrible, a train accident just have had place near Santiago. It was the train that I’ve had missed. I spent all night in front of the TV, speechless, unable to move until the next morning.
I couldn’t stop thinking- Elisa, you could have died yesterday- then I realized that life was so short to be worried about little things. The last school year had been really rough and I used to be depressed all day long. That accident definitely changed my life’s point of view. I told myself that life was for living, a gift where you have to fall and get up again. Now, every day I look at myself at the mirror and I say- Elisa, life is what you make of it, be glad that you are alive, that’s the best thing that can happen to you.
