"lie" is an intrnsitive verb, right ?

Hi,

I saw a sentence from internet : "......therein lies a story".

As I know, "lie" is an intrfansitive verb. Why can "lie" be used in that way ?

Thank you

Jason

It is intransitive. It's just an inverted way of saying "A story lies there."

Hi Jason, and welcome to English Forums.

The subject is "a story" -- it's an inversion.

A story lies therein.
