Letter to the Editor - Ss level?

Hi,

I am designing a writing activity using authentic material (a local newspaper) and thought of making the Ss write a letter to the editor.

I will provide them with an example to read, topics to choose from and number of words (between 75 and 100).

Which level do you think this activity is most suitable for? I am torn between Intermediate and Upper Int. Any views?

Thank you.

You would be able to do that at any level in Japan, Manue. It is difficult to give an opinion without knowing what Elementary-Intermediate-Advanced means, practically speaking, with the students in your region of the world. Still, I would think that even false beginners could make a stab at a 75-word letter.
