Letter to government of Canada - Inuit suicide - please check it for me...

Mr. Hans Scrist
Governor of Baffin Island
34 Ice Road
Iqaluit, BI 12567

Oct. 3, 2005

Dear Mr. Scrits,

I am writing you because I am covinced that current Geverment policy toward Baffin Bay problems and needs is not succeeding. I am going to show how urgent the situation is.

Inuit live in harmony and interdependence with the natural world and it's living resources. Harvesting and hunting are at the heart of our culture and our way of life. Our culture is more colorfull than the snow is. Inuit are people of the sea and of the land. Today, when we are facing with the destruction of seal market, everything is changing.
Suicide rates in the Arctic started to climb noticeably in the 1970s. Nowadays, it is one of the major problems for the Inuit culture.
During the past two years more than 30 teenagers living in Baffin Bay have attempted suicide. Eight have succeeded, my sister also.

Reasons identified by researchers include relationship breakdowns, difficulties in balancing cultures in the modern world, and depression. But not only. These are the most obvious problems, empty words. We live in the place where is nothing to do. Many young Inuit really don’t know how a real Inuit lives. At school the teachers try to teach traditional hunting, how to build an igloo to the pupils but an increasing number of youngsters do not wish to live out in the nature. Nature is boring in comparison with bright coulture of United States or different developing countries. We all don’t have the will to live. I am really affraid of our future.

Suicide deaths have a devastating impact on our entire communities. A national suicide prevention strategy is needed, containing solutions specifically tailored for Inuit – for us. We can’t do anything without help from government. Parents don’t have any ideas how to help their teenage sons and daughters. We are isolated, hopeless.
Do something to maeke Inuit teenagers to be proud of their culture, and be involved in developing solutions to overcome pressures of daily life.

I would like to reiterate my strong interest in the position and in working with you and your staff in the future projects of making our life purposeful. I know that here, in Baffin Bay there are a lots of people ready to join and help. Please feel free to call me at the telephone number listed above if I can provide you with any additional information about our’s society problems.

I urge to act decisively. I again appeal to you to take all appropriate action. It is a foregone conclusion that another disaster is waiting. It doesn't have to happen. This is your show.
Inuit culture is based on the community, and when a suicide
death occurs, it affects everyone, and the ripple effect goes far beyond the immediate community.

Sincerely,

Jaypoatie Twickle

Well, I have fixed the grammar and structure, but I cannot seem to do anything about the strange margins and irregular typeset that came as a result of your posting in Microsoft Office (I guess). Anyway, here is a revision. Good luck in your efforts: Dear Mr.
