Letter to a scientist regarding vacancy in his group

Dear Colleagues:

Following is my letter to a Prof regarding the vacancy in his group. I would be grateful if someone could comment on the same.

Dear Prof. ----:

I am writing to express my great interest in applying for the Ph.D program in your research group.

I am an ambitious and a curious physicist, presently working as a ---- in the field of ---- at the -----.
