Hi, I am an italian student; I have written a letter to a professor I don't know to ask him whether I can stay at his University for some months. I had no idea how to write this letter but then I found "letter to a Professor" (PostID=43383, MountainHiker) and the Professor replied to me!! Thank you MountainHiker! The Professor also asked me some questions: I have written the reply but I am not confident of the grammar and the politeness and I don't want to write something offensive to the professor. The Professor wrote: "If you will be at the conference in Italy in may we can talk in person. Certainly it is possible for you to come to New England. The issues are -when, how long and how will you be supported here" This is the reply I have prepared: "Dear Professor....., thank you very much for having considered my request. I would like to come for about six months; I am thinking of the period from ... to.... (or " I am wondering whether the period from... to...could be suitable"?). I will be supported by the salary I receive from my University (.... per month) and by my savings. Should you have any questions, please contact me. I will be at the conference in may; I look forward to talking in person (since I don't know the Professor, I fear this last sentence is too familiar and disrespectful. Could you give me an alternative?)"
Thank you, Cristina
