Letter Writing

Letter of motivation for University of Amsterdam

I saw a lot of people got help and/or good tips for writing their cover letters here, so I decided to post mine too, maybe you could do the same for me:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Hereby I would like to apply for the Master program Economics with specialisation in International Economics and Globalisation.

Currently a third-year student finishing his Bachelor in Economie-Gestion (Economics and Management) with specialisation in Analyse économique (Economic analysis) at the Faculté des Sciences Economiques et de Gestion (Faculty of Economics and Management) in Strasbourg, I am very interested in pursuing my academic career at your highly respected School of Economics, which offers the possibility to specialise in my particular field of interest, International Economics, while simultaneously obtaining solid training in economics core subjects.
Furthermore, Amsterdam, one the most cosmopolitan cities around the world, should be the ideal environment to pursue studies in such an internationalised and globalised field as Economics.

During the past three years of studying Economics and Management, my interest for Economics rather than Management studies became progressively clearer, leading to me choosing Economic analysis as my third-year specialisation.
I feel the three years in the Bachelor program have provided a large economic knowledge by focussing on economics core subjects (see CV), while still according time to more specialised themes (see CV).

Born in Luxembourg, where I lived until I graduated from High School, I fluently speak four languages (my mother tongue Luxembourgish as well as English, French and German).
As a supporter of the European idea, I would like to benefit as plenty as possible from the advantages European integration has provided, which in my case means, that I would like to divide my academic career upon two different foreign countries.
After three years in Strasbourg, one of Europe’s ‘capital cities’, I am looking forward to get to know another culture and to expand as well my academic, as my cultural horizon.
