Hi everyone,
I'm writing a motivation letter to apply for a Ph.D position and since English is not my mother tongue I would like someone taking a look at what I've written to show me mistakes/ suggest rephrasing and so on.
Furthermore, since I'm not a professional writer, I'd be also glad to anyone who could suggest me any way to reshape/change the letter body.
Finally, I already thank you for the time you wasted on my problems!
This is my letter:
I am writing to express my interest and keen to apply for the doctoral program in the XLIM lab at Limoges University as its research interests is an excellent match for my academic background.
I received a master degree in Material Science program at the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi in 2016. After spending my Bachelor and MSc study on materials sciences and nanotechnologies, especially in opto-electronic devices, I expect that the PhD position will contribute enormously to my future career plans. I also believe that I would be a valuable add to your project and department.
In the first year of master course, I got an opportunity to do an internship at Lab of Energy Material and Devices - Institute of Material Science (IMS) - Viet Nam in 3 months on topic: "Synthesis and properties of ZnO/Cds core- shell nano-rod array for quantum dots solar cell applications", supervisor PhD Ha Chi LE. It was a valuable chance for me to familiarize with research environment and research method. It also gave me the basic knowledge to understand the operation of the characterizing tool such as, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Photoluminescence (PL) and Electroluminescence (EL), Autolab… used in this field. After that I continued to pursue my research interest to do M2 internship at MINACOM Laboratory, XLIM UMR CNRS, Limoges University, France. My current academic focus is specialized optoelectronic devices such as solar cells, light emitting diodes (LEDs). My topic is “"development of perovskite light emitting diodes (LEDs) for visible optical communications”. This is great chance for me to broaden my knowledge and research experiences in my desired field. The subject is particularly attractive to me because the objective is to make first working and stable LEDs devices. On the other hand, through this subject, I will have access to different aspects of opto-electronic devices: crystalline growth, optical properties (UV and EL spectra), how to combined of different material in same devices, I-V curse characterized, etc. However, due to limited on time, I am just finishing the working devices without optimization. I am hopeful that if I get an opportunity to continue to work in this research group for my full PhD duration, I can contribute to the development of the research activities and also help the group as well as the research organization in achieving its goal in the long run.
In my last words, I am confident that this background and abilities would serve me well on your department and your project. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss my qualifications and the PhD position in more detail.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
