Hello there! I am about to apply for an MSc in Hydrogeology and I would like your help and your valuable experience upon this. I would happily receive any comments or suggestions, since it's my first attempt to write such a letter.
Dear Sir/Madam My name is XXXX and I am a BSc graduate with a 2:1 in Geology and Geo-Environment from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. During my studies I took the specialty of Dynamic Tectonics – Applied Geology since I always enjoyed working in the field and practice geological cartography. Some of the optional courses I attended were Hydrogeology – Drilling process, Neotectonics, Environmental Geology and I excelled in my dissertation focused on the effects of tectonics on the hydrographic network of NE Attica. My geological background and the knowledge of surface and groundwater flow proved to be very useful in my professional career. For the past 3.5 years I have been working to XXXX as a Geologist, Sales and Application Engineer in close collaboration with research institutions and consultancies. My tasks involve integrating, configuring and installing hydrological stations in the field and training customers in the use of the above systems. My participation in several international seminars held by “OTT Messtechnik Gmbh” and “Hydrolab” contributed to the easy use of scientific instrumentation manufactured for discharge measurement and groundwater applications. Through my work at Metrica, I got closer to demanding geological problems; salt water intrusion in coastal areas, groundwater pollution as well as water resources management in basins are some of the major problems in Greece to which a geologist has to find a solution. In order to enhance my scientific background and to broaden my professional horizons, I decided to take the next step in my education in the field of Hydrogeology, after a five-year break that made me more mature and brought me closer to the thinks I love best in my life. And which university could best prepare a promising geologist for a demanding market, other than you? The University of Birmingham which has the most time standing MSc course of Hydrogeology in UK. For this reason, as well for the invaluable experience of living in the second biggest cities of UK, I would be really thrilled if you gave me the opportunity to participate in the upcoming MSc of Hydrogeology.
Sincerely,
XXXX
