Letter of motivation corrections

This is my first time writing a letter of motivation, it is for my application to a Masters program in a german university, but since English is not my mother tongue, I would be pleased to have some corrections, here it is...

Dear Sir/ Madam:

I am writing this letter to apply for the program: M.Arch. in Architecture and Urbanism, of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at Uxxx Dxxxx (University name in german?), because my professional aspiration consists of becoming a computational design and digital fabrication specialist for architecture.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the Uxxx of Colombia in October 2006. While there, I attained an honors degree for my career final project and the Second place award at the Career final projects annual contest in the design category, organized by the Sociedad Colombiana de Arquitectos, which is the main official institution of architects in this country. My project was a speculative experiment about the housing conditions of dwellers in the contemporary city through reconciling two opposite architectural concepts: the modern and the vernacular.

During my studies, the use of free-form geometries as well as their constructive development for my projects, led me to an interest for learning about computational design tools, which I found enormously helpful and exciting. After that, such interest has been focused on parametric design and digital fabrication. To further my education in this regard, I have been taking specific workshops and courses as well as self-learning, and this has given me the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge software like Grasshopper and RhinoScript; nevertheless this innovative approach to architecture is in its very inception in countries like mine, and for now I don’t have opportunity to really apply the acquired knowledge so far.

Additional to that, I have gained professional experience working for different architecture offices or design-related companies, either as a trainee or a designer, these experiences have taught me organizational skills such as ability to multitask, time management and team work. One of those positions was abroad, as a trainee in an architecture office in New York, USA; during one year there, I had the opportunity to learn about different aspects of architectural projects, while gaining an international professional experience.

At the workshops I have taken, I have developed some design exercises about performative building envelopes by using parametric software and digital fabrication tools; this same topic would be the core of the research to develop during this program, in case of being accepted. That is the main reason to choose the Institute for Xxxx Design as the place to develop a research in this topic, since it counts on the most suitable experience and state-of-the-art infrastructure in order to help me to carry out a meaningful contribution to architecture.

When I knew about the IXD M.Arch. program, and found that my interests met the topics of it I undoubtedly decided to apply, with the aim to specialize my knowledge, which will provide me the necessary background to pursue my professional ambitions.
