Letter of Motivation

Dear all,

Please provide your insights and scrutinize my letter of Motivation.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology,
SE-100 44,
Stockholm.
Sweden.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to express my avid interest in applying for the Master's Programme in Embedded Systems at KTH, Royal Institute of Technology. I was looking for an university that provides inter-disciplinary coursework in my area of interest which is a combination of embedded electronics, communication and software and I was elated while going through the details of the master's programme in KTH and the opportunities provided. Also, School of Innovation and Communication technology(ICT) has been among the leaders in the world for its innovation and research.

I completed my under-graduate studies in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sathyabama University, India. I was placed in the First Class-Exemplary category and ranked second in the department of 140 graduates.

My interest in Science and Technology started from an early age, but was inchoate. It took precedence during my high-school studies where I was exposed to different technologies. This was an era when technology was at its forefront, the Moore's law was being threatened to be refuted with every passing year. In this hustle, I started becoming intrigued by electronics and Solid State devices. This led me to pursue Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Sathyabama University. During my graduate studies I garnered theoretical as well as practical knowledge about Analog, Digital and Mixed Signal electronics, digital signal processing and embedded systems. These laid the foundation for my insatiable interest in Embedded Electronics and the subsequent decision to pursue a career in it.

In the quest of practical understanding of electronics, I started working on academic projects at a very early stage in my under-graduate studies. In my sophomore year of college, I became part of a team entrusted with the responsibility of designing the electronic power supply of the Sathyabama nano-satellite(SNSAT), a prestigious project jointly funded by the University and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The project was under the guidance of Dr. Vasanth Kishore Babu, Department of Electrical and Electronics, Sathyabama University. This project not only provided me with hands-on experience on cutting edge technologies but also, the opportunity to interact with scientists from ISRO. This galvanized further my penchant towards electronics. In the purview of this project, I worked on simulations and hardware designing of circuitry for the electronic supply which included components such as Solar panels, MPPT, Li-ion battery, and DC-DC converters.

For the final year project I continued the hardware realization of the electronic power supply design of the nano-satellite with the addition of data acquisition system using Wireless communication (IEEE 802.11).

In addition to this, I was involved in designing on-board electronics for an All Terrain vehicle as part of a team participating in BAJA 2013. I had also been actively involved in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. I participated in various quiz competitions and had won prizes. I was also an active member of several technical collaborations like IEEE, SAE, Sathyabama Maths and robotics club.

For the past 19 months, I have worked as an embedded software engineer in a start-up, embedUR Systems. I am working on technologies like Wireless access points, routers and switches. This has enhanced my practical experience of embedded systems, giving me confidence to pursue a master's degree and kindled a desire to do research.

Based upon my education, experience and my research of your programme, I am confident that I am an excellent fit for the Master’s Programme in Embedded Systems at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. I am a hard worker with great time management skills, have real time experience and dedication towards technology. If given the opportunity, I will work hard and stretch myself to contribute to the development of science and technology. I look forward to the opportunity of attending your institution. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Vikram Jain

This is fairly well written, actually. There are a few minor changes that need to be made. I'm going to put them in in light blue.
