Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing to apply for the Master in Finance & Investments program at the Rotterdam School of Management starting in the autumn of 2013. First of all, I would like to provide my background information.
My name is ---- and I was raised in the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia. Being born in 1990 I was able to witness and experience the tremendous change my country has underwent from socialist economy to modern market economy. Saying that I would like to point out that since a very young age I was deeply intrigued in the economic science. At the age of 14 I was accepted in the National Trade and Banking School in Sofia, where I had the opportunity to learn the basics of economics and finance. For example, at that early age I was already familiar with terms, such as “capital”, “ruturn on investment” and others.
I am currently completing an undergraduate degree in finance at the University of national and world economy in Sofia. With an outstanding academic record I am among the top students in my class. As a finance student I follow the daily movements of various commodities and stock prices and am very passionate about putting the theory I have learned in practice. The programme Master in Finance and Investments would provide me with the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to pursue a career in the field of corporate finance and investment consultancy. As one of the leading business universities in Europe, Rotterdam School of Management attracts one of the most knowledgeable and experienced professors. It would be a great honor for me to learn from them. I believe I would be able to take maximum advantage of the network that RSM has built with the local business. At the same time the world renown of the university would help me to pursue a highly successful career also outside of the Netherlands. After communicating with students from Rotterdam School of Management, professors at my current university, reviewing the programme’s curriculum and ratings, I am confident that the Master in Finance & Investment program best meets my goals and desire of furthering my education.
One of the reasons I would like to attend an international programme is to meet people from different cultures and nationalities. I am confident that in the modern world it is vital to know as many languages as possible. That is why for the last two years I have sturdily learned German language. Having obtained strong knowledge in both English and German I believe Rotterdam is the right place for me, because I would be able to further strengthen my English skills and I would try hard to learn one more language – the Dutch. I believe Rotterdam School of Management would be the best place for me, because it is an international business center and would allow me to better understand how the western world operates. Having travelled to countries, such as Germany, Italy, Austria, Greece and Turkey I learned a lot about their different cultures. In the 21st century the globalization has put a lot of challenges before the contemporary society and I believe that I would better learn how to solve them by attending at an international programme.
I will be able to contribute to the programme’s success with the expertise that I was able to obtain during my internship at Institute for Market Economics (IME). IME is one of the leading and most cited economic think-tanks in Bulgaria. During my three months internship I analyzed economical and financial data and honed my analytical skills by learning from a group of professional economists. I developed strong sense of responsibility and time management skills, because a team of professionals depended on my accurate and timely work. The climax of my internship was a research I wrote on thesis “The influence of Greek crisis on the Bulgarian economy”, which is publicly available.
Thank you for your consideration. I would be very pleased to be granted admission for the fall term.
Sincerely,
