?????????????????????????????????????????????

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am applying to your graduate programme of "Analysis and Policy in Economics" starting in September 2012. My career ambition is to become an economist researching the human behavior and the incentive mechanism.

In high school I graduated in humanities course. I am continuing my academic career with majoring in both Economics and Management at Handong Global University at Korea. In August 2012 I will graduate with Bachelor degrees with an expected average score above 96 percent and G.P.A. 4.18/4.5 (4.38/4.5 on Majors). And I received Scholarship for academic excellence (Top 5%) for five times while in university.

As my first exposure to economics, I took the course "Introduction to Economics" in my studies. I was especially impressed that economics approaches to human decision making very rationally and systemically. Studying microeconomics and game theory following semester, attending game theory seminar during summer vacation, and working as teaching assistant for a year, I have taken a profound interest in economics. Especially, through the course “Economics of Regulation”, I realized the influence of policy on human behavior and its importance. I want to study at Paris School of Economics because that allows me to benefit from the research unit of the PSE, especially about public policy evaluation, and I am sure that the APE programme, jointly organized by top French academic institutions, is ideal for me to study about the human behavior and the incentive mechanism relate with policy.

I am good at mathematics. I passed five courses with good grade at university: Calculus (A+), Statistics for Economics and Management (A0), Mathematics for Business and Economics (A+), Statistical Analysis (B+), Econometrics (A0). And I have experience of working part time mathematics tutor at private academic institution and teaching mathematics to many middle school and high school students while in university.

Complementing my strong academic performance are my advanced skills in leadership and communication. I was student representative of the School of Management and Economics and I worked with U.S. Army as a senior KATUSA for 9 months while I am in army. I also have several experiences of team projects during my studies. By donating my time for those experiences, I learned team work, how to lead a team, how to follow a leader, how to motivate others, and how to achieve a goal efficiently and effectively. And I discharged my responsibilities successfully. Especially in the Warrior Leader Course, The first course of study in the US Army Non-Commissioned Officer Education System, I won the first prize in three of four sections.

Through working with U.S. Army and living with international students in international dormitory at university, I learned much about different cultures and I could understand others and socialized with them better. That allows me to work with others harmoniously, and furthermore, I could achieve better result.

I always wanted learn more about the human behavior and the incentive mechanism and apply that to the policy making to make better social system. I believe that, in well-made social structure, we can achieve desirable outcomes through selfish behavior of people. While traditional economics has strict assumptions, human beings are influenced by more complicate factors in reality. My research theme will be related to the applying the human behavior and the incentive mechanism to the policy. Your graduate programme is a great opportunity for me to study advanced economics.

I want to study at Paris School of Economics because of the advantages of being jointly organized by a number of top French academic institutions and your research units. From speaking with professors from my university, I am confident of my decision because they told me that France is well known for public policy and public administration and studying in Paris School of Economics is a good opportunity. With many distinguished international experts as professors, I know that I will gain expert knowledge at the forefront of research. In addition, after finishing the Master programme, the PSE doctoral programme is consecutive opportunity to advanced research. All these strong positives allow me to pursue my dreams and ambitions.

Given my past history of commitment to excellence, I am confident that I will bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm to your programme. I am sure to exceed your expectations, because of both my academic and interpersonal skills as well as the experiences gained from my activities. I will enrich the programme by enabling fellow students and professors to benefit from my ambitious and open nature. Furthermore, my international background will add more diversity to your programme.

Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to your acceptance.

Sincerely yours,
