Hey there, first of all I love this forum and thanks to everybody who spares their time to help. I have done a lot of reading through the forum and came up with a skeleton of a letter of motivation. Unfortunately, I dont have a lot going for me from the academic point of view since I have left school over 4 years ago and simply been travelling. So, I had a hard time coming up with anything. Anyways, I would for someone to read it and please give advise on any improvement as I am sure there os a lot of room for it. Thank you so much! Here it goes..
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to apply for the Bachelor in International Communication and Media program at *** starting in autumn 2012. After reviewing various undergraduate programs and universities I am confident that *** has an excellent programme which is perfectly suited for me.
I obtained my Abitur at Schiller Gymnasium, Potsdam in 2007 with English and History as my majors. Since then I have enjoyed travelling all over the world for more than 4 years. I am now eager to return to Europe and start my studies in the Netherlands.
Living and working abroad was a unique experience and enabled me to acquire excellent English skills. Through the ever- changing circumstances such as work, space and people I also gained an understanding of the importance of communication and media in our every day life. Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to explore different cultures and environments, which inspired me to pursue a career with an international prospect. I developed a genuine interest in journalism and research while planning and organising personal journeys across the globe. Having friends and fellow travellers appreciate my coordination of our trips made look at my capability of leadership. I do enjoy sharing and expressing my knowledge and opinion on matters and to think critically is one of my natural qualities. Altogether, I am convinced that the ups and downs of a traveller’s life have provided me with a greater understanding of my personal values and I found myself excelling in challenges. Also, it has taught me how to balance my strengths and weaknesses. I realise that I am a competitive individual who thrives on practical experience to apply theory.
The practical aspect of your bachelor’s programme and problem based learning in order to function in the professional world makes this study extremely attractive to me. Moreover, I strongly believe that the 6 months study abroad and internship as a part of the degree will provide me with the right set of skills to go after my career vision. I feel that *** has the right type of international environment and will equip me with the essential tools be become an excellent prospect in the job market.
Mass communication and social media are one of the most crucial tools to allow success in our modern life. The demand for people who understand and manage the challenges of modern technology appears to be infinitive as companies expand globally and competition rises. I can vividly imagine myself working independently or as part of a team in an international environment. I hope to be admitted to join *** and follow my ambitions.
Thank you so much for considering my application and I look forward to your acceptance of my application.
Sincerely,
