Letter of MOTIVATION.

Hello everyone, heres my motivation letter. My deadline is very soon so I would really appreciate if you could give me a quick response. Thank you in advance.

Dear Madam or Sir:

I am writing to apply to your Master Programme in X starting in September 2012. My career ambition is to become a doctor researching in Evolutionary Biology.

I will graduate with a with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in June this year and I expect to place among the upper third of my class.

My encounter with science began early in my life; both my parents are doctors as is my older sister, so I’ve always been comfortable in an environment where someone can talk and discuss in a rational and critical way. My passion for evolution began a little later, when I was already at the University and friend of mine gave me a popular science book of a well know evolutionary biologist. Soon my curiosity began to increase, and as I kept reading more and more about evolution in the textbooks I finally discovered and realize the great explanatory power of the evolutionary theory, able to account for a wide range of phenomena in a number of disciplines. From that moment on I realize that this was the field that I wanted to work in.

Since the third year of my career I work in one of the laboratories of my university, whose main focus is in phylogeny, biogeography and evolution. Over the years I’ve learned and dominate various laboratory techniques in molecular biology as well as various computer programs that are used in this area of research. Furthermore, I’ve came to know how does a real research laboratory works, how new research ideas are formed and how they get accomplished. I’ve learned how to work not only with undergraduate’s students but also with more experienced ones such as Ph. D. applicants. Finally, I have understood the importance of teamwork and all in an environment with an impeccable intellectual climate. I’ve spent my last semester in the University X as an exchange student thanks to a scholarship, where I could strength not only my theoretical and practical background but where I also had the chance to see the academic level of an international university. Having to live in a complete new world, with a new culture and language was a challenge, and as I passed all my courses, I knew what I was capable of, and I knew that I was able to accomplish my ambitions.

I choose this programme because I think it’s a significant stepping stone for my final ambition of becoming a research doctor. Second, I think it’s unique in addressing the driving forces of evolution at all levels of organismal organization, which offers a much broader expectrum of research areas than other programmes. I am particularly intrigued in the analysis of human genetic diversity, especially from a population history perspective. I think it would be very interesting to examine the process of initial settlement of the Americas (i.e. the pattern of dispersal in The Andes) as well as the recent genetic history, for example the recent more European admixture. Getting in touch with formers students of the programme I found out that this was possible, something that I haven’t found in any other programme.

Given my past history of effort and dedication, especially my practical experience and passion for evolution, I’m confident that I will exceed your expectations and definitely add diverse to your group.

Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response.

Yours sincerely,
X
