Letter of Motivation
Hello guys,
I have written a motivation letter to apply for a summer reserach program.
Even though I went over it many times, I wonder if there are still grammatical errors.
Any suggestions will be more than welcomed.

This letter is to express my interest in applying for the summer research program in 2011. I believe I am a strong candidate for this program for several reasons.
I am a senior majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at ***** university. Because I have always wanted to contribute to public health, I have found chemistry and biology very interesting. The secret for living longer and healthier seems to lie in understanding biology, and comprehending the chemical basis of biology is advantageous to better understand it. Because I thought I would enjoy my two favorite fields of science, I chose my major as Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Indeed, the college courses have been highly enjoyable and I have shown outstanding performance. Also due to its broad nature, my major allowed me to develop knowledge about various scientific fields such as physics, chemistry, and biology. This multidisciplinary knowledge indicates my suitability for the program given that many disciplines of science are converging on biology.
I am highly motivated to succeed in becoming a professor. I want to become a professor so that I can research something beneficial to public health. After spending my first year of college, I served in the military for two years. While serving the military, I realized that researching and working in the lab were the things that made me excited. Upon this realization, I elaborated on my future plans to be a professor. Ever since I planned them out, I have been trying my best to achieve my goal. As a result of my efforts, I currently rank third out of 110 students. I am confident that the summer research program at XXXX would take me one step closer to success.
To gain research experience, I joined a summer research program at OOOOO. This four-week participation was a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on research experience. I was supervised by a research scientist who was working on host engineering of E.coli. Thanks to his help, I learned DNA manipulation techniques: electrophoresis, PCR, gel purification, DNA extraction, electroporation, and gene knockout. This valuable experience significantly increased my interest in pursuing an academic career. After finishing the summer research program at OOOOO, I began to work as an undergraduate research assistant at ***** University. I am currently participating in a research project, investigating on the optimization of a method for harvesting microalgal biomass.
I am eager to participate in the summer research program at XXXX because XXXX is an excellent place to have research experience. I have contacted two participants who took part in the program in 2010. Both of them told me about how amazing experience they had, which solidified my decision to apply for the program. Moreover, I am motivated to learn from many eminent scientists of XXXX. While interacting with them, I want to gain cutting-edge scientific knowledge. Furthermore, the weekly seminars of the program are very attractive. By attending the seminars, I expect to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the fields of biology.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to participating the summer research program at XXXX.

Perhaps u can even say "I am the right candidate" instead of "strong". I do not think that we can start a sentence with a "Because". Perhaps u change it and write "As" instead:::)))) I think we do not say "The secret for sth but the secret OF sth Nice Motivational Letter, really interesting and very motivating U are quite successful in life.
