Letter Writing

Letter of motivation

Hello!

I'm writing a letter of motivation to our local office for international relations.
So I have to convince them to accept me and to arrange an exchange with an American
university. This is a very raw version but I would appreciate it if you could help me
rephrase some sentences and add possible important details.
Should I include personal interests like sports, movies etc.?
Thanks!

Letter of Motivation

Dear Sirs and Madams,

(overall goals)

I am hereby applying for a year abroad either through Joint Study or ISEP.

My goal is to further widen my business knowledge and get new perspectives

by studying a year abroad. After my graduation in Business Administration

I hope to continue my studies at an university with strong academics.

Preferably in the US.

(personal developemt)

Since my childhood I have always held a fascination for politics, business and history.

I soon realized that in order to fully understand today’s chaotic and globalized world

I would have to find a programm which suits my different interests best.

So I started looking into the subject of business. My sense for complicated issues and my eagerness to learn have helped me a lot and are further fueled by my high ambitions.

I have always been ambitious and I believe it is essential in order to move forward in your life. I early assumed responsibility by representing my class for more than five years. I enjoyed listening to their problems and consequently I tried to talk to the teachers and overcome possible obstacles. After serving as a class represantative I am grateful for this experience because it helped me to better understand human relationships and the dynamic between superiors and minors.

(goals & philanthropy)

In light of recent events and the current state of our economy my goal is no less

than to support and to encourage a new behaviour in the financial industry

I believe that many people in leading positions lost sight of what is really important. Furthermore in my opion everyone who has had the privelege of a sheltered childhood, an excellent education and probably a well paid job is obliged to engage in some kind of philanthropy. During a trip to the US I was fortunate to be able to help people who were not as privileged as I am. I had the chance to attend a school for children with special needs and was really impressed by their attitude towards life and their joy. Furthermore we formed a group and went into Washington D.C. in order to give away lunch packs to homeless people. This experience definetely shaped me and I am planning to further get involved.

(Academic reasons)

So what do I promise myself of studying in the US? Choosing the US followed the fact that global economy is considerably influenced and controlled by American institutions. Although the current financial system seems to have failed it basically was „invented“ in the US and a possible new one will be as well.

Taking this knowledge into acount I hope to improve and deepen my understanding of economic and business studies. Since the business schools in the US are among the best ones in the world I strongly believe that I can benefit a lot.

(language skills & personal interests)

Partly due to many stays in the US and a certain interest in American culture

my English has become quite good.

I have always been fascinated by foreign languages and that is why

I spent a month in Italy to sharpen my Italian.

Besides English and Italian I took some classes in Chinese as well following the fact that China is the future global power.

Studying languages and learning from different cultures and people is an important

aspect and motivation in my life.

In the following I want to go into detail about the schools I hope

to attend and the offered acamdemics.

(schools)

My first choice is the University of Seattle. Their business school is among the best colleges in the U.S. and offers a strong undergraduate programm.. I really think SU could contribute a lot to my education. Moreover I relate to the values which include diversity, an excellence in learning and the developement of leaders.

Another school which caught my attention is the University of the Pacific.

Like the University of Seattle this school is rather small sized.

As a consequence there is a very low student/professor ratio which ensures

a better enviroment for acadamic excellence which leads to a closer and more professional relationship.
