I am applying for postgraduate course in geography and sustainability . I wish to pursue research after that. Could anyone check the English, clarity and suggest me improvements.

LETTER OF MOTIVATION
I always wanted to be an explorer. The constant urge to explore the unexplored and understand the unknown motivates me and move me forward in life.

Right from my schooldays, mathematics, physics and geography are my favourite subjects. These subjects always invoked my curiosity and the desire “to see”. As a sincere student, I secured high marks in Class 10 and Class 12 and was among the top 100 students of the state. My passion and diligent efforts led me to IIT Kharagpur through IIT JEE examination which is considered the toughest examination of the world. My interest in science and geography and my creative nature encouraged me to take up architecture.

Architecture as a discipline introduced me to the vast diversity of the world, its cultures, landforms, society, and people. It developed an analytic as well as synthetic sense in me. The desire to see and learn knew no bounds. I wanted to supplement my theoretical knowledge with practical activities. A travel scholarship enabled me to study the indigenous houses and construction techniques of the Khasis in the deep valleys of Cherrapunji around the highest rainfall region of the world. For the first time I saw how carefully and sensitively, these people utilize nature and maintain a constant balance. Inspired by this new knowledge, I underwent another study tour inside Simlipal Tiger Reserve and stayed there for a period of 7 days with the Bhuniya tribes. Once again I observed the delicate balance these indigenous people maintain with the nature and enjoy a healthy living.

The biggest opportunity came to me when I was selected for an internship in . Coming from my back ground, I received a cultural shock observing the world moving on the streets of . Also working in an international office with an unknown language was a daunting task for me. However I slowly overcame this and worked dedicatedly on the project, the most important of which is the great mosque of . To intimate deeply and enrich myself with finer knowledge of life, I worked in a theatre production. The diverse activities I underwent enriched me culturally and supplemented my objective curiosity.

I underwent two courses in Physics of Solid Earth and Climate Modelling. I have a keen interest to undertake research in the field of geography. My major field of interest is in habitats in forests and cold environment. I want to learn and understand the sustainable methods by which nature can be utilized, delicately and optimally. Through my previous experiences I am aware of the complete dedication and commitment that research calls for. I strongly believe that through a balance of courses and practical projects I have acquired the requisite experience, expertise and mindset to carry out research in a structured and effective manner in this challenging task.

In conclusion I am confident that I possess the motivation, intellectual ability and the preparation to succeed in a demanding graduate program. I am aware of the hard work and perseverance necessary for research work and I am sure that my aptitude and drive will see me through the challenge.
