Letter Writing

Letter of Motivation

Hey all!

I am applying for a (English) study in a Dutch University. Anyhow, they ask me to write a letter of motivation...
I did it before, but still it feels like it's the very first time because I really dont know where to start!!
Everything I write down sounds very stupid!!

Can you give me some writing tips?

At this forum I found many other posts about writing such letters, and that's where I found this structure:

1) Introduction (very quick points)
1a) Who you are
1b) What you want to do
1c) Why do you want to do it
1d) What do you want from them

2) Detailed background
2a) Expand on who you are

3) Detailed background
3a) Expand on what you want to do and why you want to do it

4) Summary
4a) Summarize what you have told them
4b) Thank them for considering your application

Maybe this is something to keep in mind while writing my letter??
Or do you recommend another structure?

I hope you can help me along :-)

thanks a lot,
greeetzz,
wendy

That looks like a good structure. I think the main thing is to make sure you do not wander off the point, make sure you have included all the important information they are asking for and write as well as you can, concisely, and show that you can plan and organise your writing. Good luck.

Hai Nona,

First of all, thanks for your reply!

I am going to try it today, because next saturday/sunday I have to mail (not e-mail :-(...) everything home,
so that my mam can make sure it's there on the right time.

After I wrote it down I will copy it here, b
