Letter of explanation

my boss asked me to come to his office @ 13.pm to sign payment vouchers but I was unable to go there , because I had to go for a funeral of one of staff member's mother. Though I handover that duty to another person ( get sighn vouchers from sir) he missed that duty .So my boss asked me to give an explanation letter for this faulty
