Letter for drop a subject

okay so my child is dropping chemistry AS and i have to write a letter to the head of year saying tht my child wants to drop this subject.. how would i write this formally?

My son wants to drop AS chemistry as it is nt a required subject for his uni and would liek to concentrate on other subjects more

sometihng along those linesjus need to make it longer and make it more formal.. just need to say sumthing bout my son dropping chemistry and convince them to let my son drop AS chem
