Dear Henry,
I have read with interest your article on family values. Most of the aspects you discuss are common nowadays however some of them can be explained by a natural change in peoples’ lifestyles.

Children may seem to us that they do not do much when compared with the past but this can be partially explained by parents’ lack of interest in children’s activities. Parents are often too occupied with their work and do not spend as much time with their children and simply do not see the problem. Today’s employers are very demanding and in the same breath businesses operate differently because there is more competition. In addition, both parents often work which was not the case in the past.

Although it seems like parents have less to do in their households due to technological advances they spend more time commuting and being at work. Even if parents are running businesses they cannot just make their children work on regular basis. This may lead to a situation where they can be perceived as if they use their children as slaves. Someone could just simply report this to the police and cause unnecessary problems to parents.
As for your comment about children’s attitude towards studying, I endorse your view. Children do not study as much as before because education system allows this to happen. Education system does not reprimand children who do not perform as expected. Pupils do not have to repeat a year if they fail exams.

Without strict methods in education system we will never see any improvement in children’s learning let alone their ambitious attitude towards subjects taught at school.
Less time available for parents due to their busy work schedules and lack of strict rules at schools contribute to deterioration of children’s learning abilities. Something needs to be done as soon as possible to change this current situation.
