Hi, I would like to know the exact meaning of this expression here:

'-In another life, I could have been you, she would say.
-Yeah, but then I wouldn't have been the same person in that life.
-Yeah, that's right. LET'S WORK ON IT'

I have no idea what this is trying to say. "Let's work on it" means "let's try to make that happen."
