Let's dig in

situation:

Many students gather in the dining hall at the required time. Before dinner, students are chatting with their teachers. Gradually they move towards the tables with food and, sitting down, keep talking. But a student doesn't want the conversation hinder the start of dinner, what should he say to tell others to start eating while talking? What should he say to tell others to synchronise eating and talking?

Hi I think the student just gestures towards the table and says something like ... - I don't know about you guys, but I need to eat! 'Let's dig in' is certainly OK too.
