"Let us know" vs "Tell us how"

A client wants us to set up a customer service survey. We've hit a sticking point - they insist that using one of the phrases above is better English than the other.

Is there a difference between "tell us how we are doing" and "let us know how we are doing"? Purely from a technical point of view - is one of these options more correct than the other?

Respected fivejedjon, contractions sometimes confuse me much. As you used "We'd use".
