Do you think 'Hamlet' is an old fashioned word (and one should avoid using it) as in the sentence below?

I'd say "playing Hamlet" is timeless, but the expression would be understood by a smaller proportion of your audience than would "playing devil's advocate."
I don't think it's so much a question of period as of education.
