Let me have your thoughts on my Motivation letter for MBA program

Dear all,
Please find below my motivation letter for a distance learning MBA programme of an UK university. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on my motivation letter. Does this letter cover, what is expected to be written in a motivation letter? As I am not a native speaker, I also would be happy to hear about grammatical errors or bad spelling.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to apply to the xxxxxxxxx MBA programme by distance learning for the 2014 October intake. This programme is a solid step towards my future career as a businessperson who understands water and civil engineering fundamentals. My ultimate career goal is to hold a management position in the water industry.

I am not new to a distance learning programme. I have completed a Masters Degree in sustainable management and protection of water from Technische Universität xxxxxxxxxxx in Germany in 2010 through distance learning. As I achieved this alongside my job as a consultant, I certainly know the importance of good time management and organisational skills. But I have always endeavoured to upgrade my education in the field of business. I often observe some kind of insensitiveness regarding financial and commercial needs by engineers even on middle and top management level. This has become my main motivation for studying business management. Besides my technical education I would like to gain a combination of business issues understanding, with interpersonal and leadership skills in order to work in a large water management company.

I also have a Bachelor Degree in civil engineering from xxxxxxx University of Applied Sciences in Germany. I was the only student in my intake year who completed the programme with two stays abroad, Ecuador and England, using two different foreign languages, Spanish and English.

After graduation and ten years of work experience, I am now a project manager in a management consulting company serving clients mainly from the public sector. Our company is the market Ieader in benchmarking in the water sector. I am responsible for all project matters, including administrative, financial, and marketing functions.
I have done a lot of research before I decided to apply to the xxxxxxxxx MBA by distance learning, amongst other things the Triple Crown accreditation and the rankings in the Economist and the Financial Times were great attractions to me, because my goal is to gain qualifications recognized as the best worldwide. My positive experience during my stay as student in the Erasmus programme in Nottingham was also a reason to apply at an UK institution. After checking the homepage of the xxxxxxx MBA by distance learning programme and the xxxxxxxx business school, I was mightily impressed by what the University of xxxxxxxxx offers. I am keen to see the effective use of online technology to bring together and capture the wealth and richness of knowledge and experience of students from over 100 different countries.

I encountered business issues since my early childhood. My parents owned and run a bakery when I was a child. The bakery went bankrupt due to the economic difficulties in Eastern Germany after the collapse of the GDR. Off course at this time, my exposure to business was minimal. But since this time, I know how important it is for every entrepreneur to develop mental toughness to push through any sales challenge you face in a business. Despite that bad experience, I still enjoyed reading the business pages as a teenager. It fascinated me how companies operated and what the effects on their stock prices was. Therefore, when I turned eighteen I decided to open a share deposit account. Managing this account taught me to accept and handle risk since I had to safeguard my investment through both the dotcom bubble and the financial crisis. Today I know that in every crisis there is also an opportunity. Now a part of my portfolio is supposed to provide the funding of my course fees.

I also did a lot of sports such as football and swimming when I was a child. I learned the values of teamwork, how to win, how to work hard, how to focus and concentrate, and how to balance my time and priorities. My biggest success was winning the bronze medal in 100 m breaststroke at the youth spartakiad in my hometown in 1988. In my free time, I still play football with my colleagues regularly.

There are three key reasons why I want to study at this programme. First, I selected your programme because of its primary focus on business with the expectation that students already possess a strong postgraduate managerial work experience. Secondly, I am excited about the wide range of opportunities to specialise in areas of my choice. I am curious to learn about courses such as management of change or strategic leadership. Last but not least, I want to be a manager who can combine the science of water resources engineering with the art of management.

Thank you very much for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response.

Sincerely yours,
xxxxxx xxxxxxxx
