Let me elucidate

Hi

Is the word elucidate used in everyday conversation? Or would you that explain is better?

Let me elucidate.
Let me explain.

The Google N grams almost refuses to acknowledge the use of "let me elucidate".

Elucidate is a $5 word.
Explain is a $0.50 word.

When people use $5 words in an everyday conversation, they are only trying to impress someone within earshot that they are infinitely superior beings.
