Lessons, teaching hours

Dear Native Speakers of English,

Can we use “teaching hours” or some similar expression normally to refer to “lessons” in a school?

I saw “teaching hours” used from the teacher’s perspective, concerning universities. I wonder if you can use it when you really mean lessons and consider them from the students point of view (as well).

Could you, please, throw some light on this? Thank you in advance.

Anonymous . I wonder if you can use it when you really mean lessons and consider them from the students point of view (as well). No; it refers to the paid hours during which the employee will teach, in contradistinction to paid time for administration, material development, etc.
