The vase slips out of the boy's hands and shatters on the floor. His dad seems amused. His mom less so. She yells at her son.

1) Is "less so" natural here?

2) Is it often used ironically not to mean (in this context) that she's less amused than the dad but that she's not amused at all, more the opposite?
